Safika is a major donor of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust which raised R1 billion to realise Nelson Mandela’s dream of creating a state-of-the-art, specialised paediatric facility to serve the children of Southern Africa.
This rural trust receives substantial annual dividends from Safika subsidiary, Tshipi é Ntle. It was established to improve the quality of life of the people of the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality in the Northern Cape Province.
The Chairman’s Fund provides a vehicle for Safika to invest in initiatives that enrich the social fabric of South Africa. To date, the Chairman’s Fund has supported a number of young South Africans with the potential to succeed in business with the opportunity to study at prestigious universities and business schools. It has also supported nation-building initiatives implemented by the South African Council of Churches.
Founded in 1968, during one of the darkest periods of South Africa’s history, the South African Council of Churches became one of the most prominent organisations to stand up to the apartheid regime.
Safika and many of its shareholders and employees support the Black Professionals Scholarship Fund (BPSF) which funds the studies of deserving university students and also provides mentorship to first year students, helping them to manage the transition from high school to university.
