Richard Chauke
Non-executive Director
Richard is a significant shareholder in, and non-executive director of, Safika Holdings. He is a co-owner of Medicard (Pty) Ltd. and a director of Altussport Trust, PL Steel and Safika Oosthuizens Transport.
Richard was imprisoned on Robben Island for working to end apartheid in South Africa. While in prison, he served as director of Robben Island’s sports, liaison and information body from 1985 to 1988. This organisation had the unique distinction of being the only prisoner body in the world to be recognised by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA). In 1994, Richard was appointed co-convener of the commission that formulated South Africa’s sports policy. He currently serves as a member of the Gauteng Sports Council.
